Multidisciplinary cooperation between the University Department and Clinic of Ophthalmology in Lublin and its counterpart at the University of Trieste has been ongoing for many years. It is an example of significant scientific and clinical cooperation in European ophthalmology. The relationship between the two institutions has resulted in joint publications in renowned scientific journals, the exchange of experiences, and the training of young Italian ophthalmologists in Lublin.
Ophthalmologists from Trieste visited the clinic in Lublin, managed by Prof. Robert Rejdak, several times for scientific and clinical internships, gaining access to advanced diagnostics and surgical techniques at the highest European level. Prof. Daniele Tognetto, an outstanding Italian ophthalmologist and surgeon who heads the Ophthalmology Clinic at the University of Trieste, also visited the clinic.
It was the prestige and quality of the Lublin clinic’s work that led to Prof. Rejdak being awarded the title of visiting professor at the University of Trieste, an honor granted to only a select few. This decision is not only a personal success for the professor, but also recognition for the entire field of Polish ophthalmology.
This is the second such distinction for Professor Rejdak in Italy. He has previously served as a visiting professor in Palermo. He also holds honorary doctorates from universities in Lviv, Kiev, and Tashkent. In the era of global medicine, cooperation between centers is not a luxury but a necessity. And when it brings measurable results in the form of joint scientific achievements and well-trained doctors, it also becomes a source of pride.
The University of Trieste, a classic university with a broad academic profile, is known for its exceptionally high level of teaching and research in the field of ophthalmology. This year, the title of visiting professor was awarded to only 20 scientists from various fields — out of many candidates. Professor Rejdak was one of two representatives of medical sciences selected for this title.
Professor Rejdak’s candidacy was nominated by Professor Daniele Tognetto, who admitted, “I had no doubt that this outstanding Polish surgeon, lecturer, and scientist would prevail in the difficult competition for this prestigious title.”
In the world of science, such distinctions do not come by chance. They are the result of decades of work, impressive scientific achievements, and a strong position in international medical circles. Professor Rejdak’s selection by one of Europe’s most important ophthalmology clinics can be seen as a symbolic “distancing from the competition.”
“For me, it is a great professional honor and prestige. I have earned the trust of such a renowned university as the University of Trieste,” says Professor Rejdak. “I will be teaching students and young ophthalmologists. The competition was very strong, and the selection was made as part of a university-wide competition,” he adds.
Trieste is a city with a long academic tradition, and its university, located in northern Italy in an elegant and historic setting, plays an important role in European and global ophthalmology.
